Wardrobe Clothing Guide for Exquisite Timeless Portraits
Creating an extraordinary portrait begins with what you wear.
Wardrobe is the single most important element in achieving the elegant, timeless look Butler Portraits is known for. When done well, it elevates your portrait into a true work of art.
CREATING TIMELESS PORTRAITS
We specialize in Formal and Semi-Formal Portraiture crafted as a lasting legacy.
Recommended Attire:
- Formal: tuxedos, evening gowns
- Semi-Formal: suits, collared button-up shirts, ties, elegant dresses
- Dress shoes, coordinated belts and socks
COLOR COORDINATION (KEY TO SUCCESS)
Please choose one direction for your group:
All Dark Tones
Black, navy, deep green, burgundy
OR
All Light Tones
White, cream, soft pastels (avoid bright colors)
✔ Solid colors will give you the best possible results
✔ Subtle textures (lace, linen) add depth beautifully
WHAT TO AVOID
To ensure your portrait remains timeless:
- Jeans, sneakers, t-shirts, polos, shorts
- Busy and bold patterns, florals, stripes, logos
- Bright or neon colors
- Multi-color tops or bottoms
These elements distract from what matters most—you.
DRESS REHEARSAL (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
Two weeks before your session:
- Try on all outfits from head to shoe
- Include socks, shoes and accessories (jewelry, hats, props)
- Ensure everything is pressed and fits well
This simple step ensures a relaxed, seamless experience.
PERSONAL TOUCHES
Meaningful items are always welcome:
- Musical instruments
- Dance attire
- Heirloom accessories
These details help tell your story.
FINAL THOUGHT
When wardrobe is done right, everything else falls into place.
Your portraits will feel more personal, connected, more refined—and truly unforgettable.
